Chasing Big Gar !!!

On Thursday we set out to catch some big gar.

Now if you have never heard of gar fishing, I understand.

In Texas and Louisiana they prefer bow fishing for them over rod and reel.

Here in Georgia we have the American Longnose Gar and you can fish for them with a lure made from nylon rope. It is really fun, you go out sight fishing for them and when you spot them you cast to them. They tear thru the water like torpedos after you bait. The nylon rope lures don't have and hooks but the gars teeth are so sharp he can't let go once he bites.

Goin' After The Monsters!!!

Gary and Stacy strike again, Santee Cooper here we come.
Well we have been here before and we are back for some more great catfishing action, and great action we had, we didn't see as many fish as we made the decision to go after the "MONSTERS".
We caught some nice fish and then the monster showed up, he swallowed the bait and sat down on the bottom,we were just looking at the pole in the rodholder bent down, tip pointing toward the water, we knew it was a big one because this was a 50# stiff rod with a large bait only the monsters could eat.
I pulled hard to get him up enough to get the rod free of the holder, and the managed to get him a couple of cranks off the bottom, I pulled again and he wasn't a happy camper, he took off and before I could loosen the drag back from the hook setting position it was all over, just like that the line was limp, not just any line mind you, but 100# power pro spectra braid, how big was this monster we will never know but he felt like I was being pulled by a volkswagen!
I'm glad Stacy was so focused on the action he forgot to turn on the video camera or you would have seen this face just like the 5 year old kid whose icecream ball just fell off his cone, :( The great news for you, he is still out there waiting for you, don't worry I am coming back for him but till I get back again you can hook up with Capt.Dewayne and try your hand at the monster.

When The Catfish Just Ain't Bitin!

What do you do when the fish you're after just are'nt biting. Heres a new option to try. On my last trip to Santee the heat must have had the catfish down, they weren't even interested in live bait, what gives? Luckily I had brought along my gar lures and soon I was hooked up with a nice gar. Sorry no pics of these, I gave them away before I got a pic of them. If you are fishing where there are lots of gar get a gar lure and get at it, its a blast. Don't forget to go to
http://www.gonefishinclub.com/ and join my free fishin club, who knows you might win a free gar fishing trip to Lake Lanier.
Tight Lines and Happy Fishing!
Thanks Gary
